Shoppers in Tobago are spending their money for Christmas.
Guardian Media visited several stores in the Bon Accord-Crown Point area yesterday where established businesses were drawing in their loyal customers. At Emopal Limited, spokesperson Rholda John said in the aftermath of the pandemic customers are shopping for household items, gifts and curtains.
“Some days sales are excellent, some days slow. For the most part sales have been really good. This Christmas is really a nice Christmas. Toys have been flying off the shelf,” she said,
Also doing a thriving trade was Fitzroy “Stumpy” Phillips, 77, has been operating his business in Tobago since 1966 when he opened Stumpy’s in Plymouth before relocating to Milford Road, Canaan, in 2001. He said his father Rufus Phillips used t conduct a conscience sale where customers were asked to pay for products based on what they feel it was worth. He said the sale was even mentioned by a member of the prominent Sabga business family.
Leslie Ann Burnette-Alexander, a supervisor at Stumpy’s Emporium, said business is goodwith customers lookig for decorations, gifts and house old items. Burnette-Alexander said toy sales are slower than anticipated but are expected to increase by Christmas Eve.
Shopper Latalia Charles, of Buccoo, who was looking for educational toys, said times are hard so people have to be selective with their purchases.
