An official statement from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is confirming that 11 of the 38 Venezuelans detained on Tuesday morning at the Tzar Nightclub in Woodbrook, are still in custody and are being interrogated by police officers.
According to the release, which was issued just before 9 last night, the TTPS says despite what the management of Tzar Nightclub stated in its statement yesterday—that everyone was released from custody—five of the Venezuelans were still detained at the Woodbrook Police Station and another six at the Central Police Station on St Vincent Street, Port of Spain.
The TTPS also confirmed that among the 38 detainees, there were five girls between the ages of 15 and 17 years. The police statement says when the Venezuelans were taken into custody, everyone was allowed to write their names and dates of birth, and from the record obtained by the police, five of the detainees were 17 years and under.
The TTPS also reports that three of the young girls have been accounted for, while two escaped custody and the search continues for them.
The TTPS also reports that Immigration authorities are investigating this matter, as well.
