A Vistabella man is expected to appear in the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court today to answer for last month’s murder of nightclub worker Dale Lewis.
The accused, who was arrested by Central Division police on Friday, was charged by WPC Serioux following an investigation by the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region Three, inclusive of Insp Corrie, Insp Jones and Cpl Smith.
It is alleged that on January 20, Lewis, 43, of Couva, was at the home of the suspect’s ex-girlfriend when he was stabbed several times in the neck.
Reports stated that Lewis and the suspect’s girlfriend worked at a club in Couva and following a Friday night’s shift, they went bar hopping. Lewis later accompanied the woman to her La Sophie Avenue, Claxton Bay home to ensure that she was safe. It was then the suspect went to the woman’s home and on seeing Lewis, got upset and an argument broke out.
The woman contacted St Margaret’s police and the officers arrived on the scene and ordered the suspect to leave.
However, at around 4.15 am the next day, the suspect returned and found Lewis asleep outside the house. This time he got into an argument with Lewis, whom he accused of being with his girlfriend. During the argument, the suspect picked up a knife and stabbed Lewis several times in his neck before running off.
Meanwhile, Central Division police has held a 24-year-old Claxton Bay labourer on Friday for the 2018 murder of Parliament clerk Marianna Moonisar. On August 3, Moonisar, 28, died from a bullet to the head while driving to her Couva home. Her father Roopchand “Chippy” Moonisar, who was also in the car, escaped death, although a bullet struck him in the cheek.
Around 5.30 am that day, gunshots were fired while Roopchand and Moonisar were driving through the same area that they were ambushed.
However, they did not know the bullets were for them. Around 5.15 pm, Moonisar was about to turn her Nissan Tiida car onto the Esperanza Road when two gunmen opened fire on the car, killing her and wound her father. Back then, police believed that the gunmen were contracted to kill Moonisar.
