Two men were arrested and charged, on gun and drug related charges, by officers of the Southern Division Task Force (SDTF), during an anti-crime exercise conducted yesterday, Tuesday 19 January 2021.
One of the men was held for possession of a firearm and ammunition, while the other was arrested for possession of ammunition and a quantity of marijuana.
According to official police reports, SDTF officers on the exercise along 19 Picton Road, Diamond Village, San Fernando, encountered a man lying in a hammock. The man reportedly ran when he saw the police officers.
PC Lake gave chase and held the suspect, who was taken back to the hammock, and a search was conducted. During the search PC Lake found one .38 Revolver with six rounds of .38 ammunition.
A 19-year-old labourer was arrested and charged for possession of firearm and ammunition.
A simultaneous arrest was made by WPC Torres, at 19B Picton Street, Diamond Village in San Fernando, where a 20-year-old unemployed man was arrested and charged for possession of four rounds of .38 ammunition and 57 grammes of marijuana.
As the exercise continued and based on information received, a search was conducted at the Old Train Line, St Margaret, where some 510 grammes of marijuana were found and seized.
The exercise was coordinated by Snr. Supt. Lucia Winchester, Supt. Jackman, Supt. Carty, ASPs Ramdass, and Persad, Insp. Phillip and supervised by Sgts. Joseph and Charles, Cpls. Bahadur and Phoolchan, with assistance from the Canine Unit.
