A 27-year-old man allegedly shot at his common-law wife yesterday during a heated argument after she accused him of being unfaithful. The 28-year-old woman was not injured.
According to a police report, around 9:20 am on Monday July 26th, the woman was at the home of her in-laws at Gould Street, Mayaro, when she began arguing with her common-law husband about his infidelity. He is said to have left the house and returned about two minutes later allegedly with a gun.
The couple continued arguing, during which the man pointed the gun at his common-law wife and threatened her life. At this point, the man's mother intervened. However, he still fired at his wife, but the bullet struck a wall in a bedroom. He then ran out of the house.
Upon his arrest, the suspect is expected to be charged with common assault, shooting with intent, possession of firearm and ammunition, and possession of firearm and ammunition to endanger life.
Visiting the scene were officers of the Mayaro CID and Task Force, including Insp Ramkissoon, Sgt Mohammed, Ag Cpl Neaves and PC Nancoo, who responded to the report and conducted inquiries.
