A woman from Sea Lots was on her way to work when she was allegedly attacked and sexually assaulted in St Clair on Sunday night.
According to a police report, at about 6.50 pm the victim was walking along Charlotte Street, Port-of-Spain when upon reaching in the vicinity of Eastside Plaza, a white Nissan Tiida pulled up alongside her and the driver asked her where she was going.
She told the driver in Maraval and he said he would drop her there.
Thinking he was a Private for Hire (PH) driver, the woman got into the back seat of the car.
While en route to Maraval, the driver diverted to Prada Street, St Clair, where he stopped the vehicle and proceeded to assault the woman. He then left her at the side of the road, got back into the driver's seat and drove off.
The woman walked towards her workplace, which was nearby, and informed her manager of what had transpired.
The police were immediately notified, and officers of the St Clair Police Station responded.
The woman was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where she was medically examined.
Police said the woman is highly traumatised and will be sent to counselling.
