President of the International Sports and Cultural Academy (ISACA), Fizes Hosein is calling on Azim Bassarath, the president of the T&T Cricket Board, to have a look at the sporting talent that exists within the walls of the Woodbrook Secondary School situated on French Street, Port-of-Spain.
Hosein made the call after seeing the students in action at the school compound recently and said he is convinced that there are a few budding national cricketers at the institution.
Hosein, who is also president of the D Biggest Educational, Sporting, Technology Inc, is also making a call on other National Sporting Organisations such as the T&T Football Association, the National Association of Athletic Administration and the T&T Volleyball Federation to send someone to check out the many talented children that attend the educational institution.
The school has no recreation ground of its own and therefore the students can only exhibit their skills in the different sports, during their break time or during lunch hour. The school does not compete in the Secondary Schools Football League or the schools cricket competition because of this problem and therefore skills waiting to be released to the public can only been seen by their peers on the concrete strips of their compound.
ISACA, which has for many years, been combing the communities of T&T to achieve its mandate, which is to enhance the development of the youth in sports as well as education, now wants to help the students at Woodbrook. He suggested that Bassarath and the heads of the various sporting organisations try to reach out to the student/athletes at Woodbrook Secondary.
"They can either send representatives of their respective organisations or select them and take them to sporting camps or to registered clubs in the associations' league competitions, but something has to be done" Hosein pleaded.
He added: "The students do not have any field of their own at the school, yet the skills and talent that exist at the school are mind boggling and I can tell you that with the right help, these students can be well on the way to the national teams and then off to professional contracts," Hosein explained.
Hosein is also calling on Minister of Sport Darryl Smith to see what can be done to help the students at Woodbrook Secondary School with enhancing their sporting talents.
During a visit to the school recently, Hosein donated a number of sporting items such as footballs, cricket balls and bats, volleyballs, netballs and basketballs that would help in the skill development of the athletes at the school.
Some of the outstanding students were also given sports gear. They are volleyballers/footballers, Christine George, Shania Gellineau, Ayasha Romany, Shanice Glasgow and Allyssa Harvey, basketballers/footballers, Tareke Dennis, Jafgari Trotman, Alexander Archer, Kiel Baptiste, Kayode Cutting, Tyrese Augustine, Kyle Lopez and Nathaniel Austin, and cricketers, Tereke Dennis, Jabari Antoine, Nathaniel Austin, Tyrese Augustine, Kyle Lopez and Tariq Constantine.
