Cricket West Indies (CWI) will see better days soon when it comes to their finances says director Azim Bassarath.
The president of the T&T Cricket Board (TTCB) noted that the board is not in the best of health financially at the moment but the right guys are there looking to take the regional organisation into the black.
"We have had to spend a lot of money hosting unprofitable tours in the region fulfilling our International Cricket Council (ICC) obligations. This has put us under the weather a bit. Windies hosted Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in 2018 and this affected the profit line badly, so much so that the board needed to find ways to make their monthly commitments," said Bassarath.
England then came to the region this year and the tour was profitable helping the debt situation tremendously.
Bassarath said: "We earned some much-needed revenue for the England tour and this has helped a lot. We are expected to at least get back to even keel at the end of the Indian tour which takes place in August in the Caribbean."
More than that Bassarath said that he has a lot of faith in chief executive officer (CEO) Jonny Graves when it comes to making a turnaround.
"Jonny is great at this job and with him there it gives you the confidence that we have a man who can chart us out of difficult waters. I have observed him and he is a thorough professional and the right man to be at the helm at this point.
"Jonny understands cricket administration and he understands the market. I can safely say he understands the environment he is working in when it comes to dealing in the Caribbean. We have a lot of work to do, as we are all stakeholders and we must do our part to advance the game in the region.
"We have a number of initiatives that needs funding and we need all on board to ensure that investor confidence is returned. Things are difficult financially in the Caribbean but if our players who fight, it will give CWI something that is capable of being sold. Investors would return to West Indies cricket once they see the fight from our players. We can't get beside ourselves, first we need to be competitive on a regular basis and this would lead to more wins and hopefully onwards to domination.
"We have a great opportunity to make a statement at the upcoming World Cup which is the game's masterpiece and I am hoping that our players give a good account of themselves at this tournament."
