T&T cyclist failed to add to this country’s medal tally at the 2021 UCI Tissot Track Cycling World Championships at the Stab Velodrome, Roubaix, France on Sunday.
Competing on the final day of the event, Akil Campbell was a 17th placed finisher in the men’s Elimination Race from a field of 22 riders with 197 points.
Taking the top three positions were Italian Elia Viviani with 1,000 points followed by Portugal’s Iuri Leitao (900) and Russian Sergei Rostovtsev with 800.
In his other events in France, Campbell finished 21st in the Men’s Omnium and failed to finish the Scratch race event.
Nicholas Paul won T&T’s lone medal, a silver on in Friday’s Kilometre Time Trial in a time of 59.791, behind Dutchman Jeffrey Hoogland who won in 58.418 while Germany's Joachim Eilers got bronze in 1:00.008.
And on Saturday, Paul, the flying 200 metres world record holder was ousted in the quarterfinals of the match-sprint.
The medal won by Paul, the first by T&T at the event and by any English-speaking Caribbean cyclists earned T&T joint tenth spot on the medal table with Japan, New Zealand and Portugal.
Germany topped the medal table with 11, inclusive of six gold, two silver and three bronze, one more medal than Holland who gathered five gold, three silver and two bronze, with Italy also claiming ten medals, four gold, three silver and three bronze each.
