National tennis coach Kino Francis is confident ahead of the official start of the Junior Davis Cup Tournament in Guatemala on Monday.
Francis, an ex-tennis standout, said his top two players Kale Dalla Costa and Zachery Byng have been acclimatised to the conditions there, having been over there for the past two weeks now pursuing much-needed International Tennis Federation (ITF) points that will go toward their rankings.
Dalla Costa will be the top-ranked T&T player after being selected to play in the Under-14 Tennis Masters tournament in Mexico last year by virtue of being among the top eight players in the region.
Dalla Costa, dominant at local tennis in his division, entered the masters' tournament ranked second in the region and finished in fifth position.
"Both Dalla Costa and Byng have been here for the past two weeks so they have acclimatised to the conditions. It is very cold here, but they have had sessions on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday against some of the players that we will be up against in the tournament.
"Jordell Chapman, the reserve player and I came up here recently and met them.
"But based on the countries I am seeing in the tournament thus far, I think we will be able to hold our own," Francis explained.
The draw will take place Sunday at which time Francis and his charges will know who they will be up against and what group they will be in.
So far, Francis said regional rivals Barbados, Aruba and the host nation are some of the teams they could potentially be up against next week.
