Linda Partap-Boodhan was crowned women’s A Division champion of the National Classified Table Tennis Championship when she stunned favourite Brittany Joseph in five sets in the final at the National Racket Centre, Orange Grove Road, Tacarigua on Saturday night.
Joseph of Warrenville Sports Club lifted the title courtesy an 11-8, 6-11, 6-11, 12-10, 11-9 defeat of two-time national champion, Joseph, who was also beaten in last year's decider by Catherine Spicer, who missed this year's event due to a training stint in Spain.
In the semifinals, Partap-Boodhan swept aside 12-time national women’s champion Aleena Edwards, 11-9, 11-8, 11-7 and Joseph crushed veteran Merle Bagoo, 11-3, 11-4, 11-7.
Earlier on in the quarterfinals, Partap-Boodhan humbled Aleena’s niece, Imani EdwardsTaylorn11-2, 11-7, 11-5; Joseph slammed Gyshan Latchman, 11-6, 11-5, 11-5; Bagoo rallied past Chelsea Fong 7-11, 11-5, 10-12, 11-9, 11-8, and Edwards (Aleena) humbled her mother, Verna Edwards, an ex-national champion, 11-5, 11-9, 11-2.
In the men’s C final, Raul Kisseur outlasted Nicholas Baksh 11-7, 16-14, 9-11, 13-15, 11-8.
Earlier in the quarterfinals, Kisseur overcame Joel Henry 11-5, 13-15, 11-7, 11-4 in his quarterfinal while Baksh stopped Terry Ferraz 11-8, 14-12, 11-4, Edward Moses battled past Rhonnel Forde 11-7, 8-11, 9-11, 11-5, 12-10 and Lonaire Joseph defeated Raakeel Hosein 7-11, 11-5, 11-3, 11-8.
Then in the semifinals, Kisseur whipped Moses 11-3, 11-6, 11-8 and Baksh withstood the challenge of Joseph 13-11, 9-11, 11-8, 4-11, 12-10.
