The 29-year-old striker has been much sought after and is expected to leave the East England club, nicknamed “the Posh”, in the transfer window which opened on New Year’s Day.
However, with Clarke-Harris bagging 26 goals during the last term to win the Golden Boot, and having already scored ten in 24 games in all competitions this season, Fry said the player would not be a cheap sell.
“He won’t be leaving for peanuts. His scoring record is outstanding and he’s a great bloke to have around the club even when he isn’t playing. He’s been unbelievable with the younger players,” Fry said.
Transfer-listed at the end of last season after Peterborough failed to gain promotion to the Championship, Clarke-Harris saw a move to Bristol Rovers worth 800 000 pounds sterling collapse late on deadline day last September.
Clarke-Harris quickly returned to his scoring form for the Posh, netting four times in September – including a brace against Mansfield.
With the club anticipating a January move, Clarke-Harris was given very few starts in recent months but celebrated a return to the final XI by grabbing a brace against Barnsley last Friday.
Fry said Clarke-Harris’s high value went beyond simply goal-scoring ability.
“He got us through the FA Cup tie at Salford for instance, not just by scoring, but by encouraging everyone during the penalty shootout,” Fry said in reference to the blockbuster Cup tie at Moor Lane last November.
“If anyone missed he was the first to run over to them to pick them up.”
While Rovers have since cooled their interest following the axing of manager Joey Barton, media reports say Fleetwood Town are expected to chase the player’s signature during the window. CMC
