Defending champions LCB Central Sharks was in brilliant form on Saturday night as they easily took care of Novel Sports Southern Titans by six wickets in their Courts Women T20 Grand Slam clash at the National Cricket Centre (NCC) in Couva.
Skipper Britney Cooper smashed 65 not out to take her team to 114 for six off their 20 overs but this was not enough. The right-hander who plays for the West Indies faced 64 balls striking five fours and a six. However, apart from Chadean Nation 17, no other player contributed significantly as they found the bowling of Samantha Bissoon 3/25 unplayable.
When Sharks chased, there were hardly any anxious moments as they were able to coast to victory under the hand of Shinelle Henry who made an unbeaten 58.
Tonight, Sharks will be looking to continue their winning ways when they battle UdeCott Northern Starblazers at the National Cricket Centre in Couva.
Starblazers will be hoping to get back on track after the hammering they received at the hands of Phoenix on Saturday night. They were routed for just 44 runs batting first at the UWI SPEC in St. Augustine. Skipper Kamara Ragoobar was simply brilliant with figures of four wickets for eight runs, as they were humbled easily. He was supported by Hayley Matthews three wickets for nine runs, as Starblazers was made to be stargazers on the night.
Their innings could have been even shorter had it not been for 24 from Natasha McLean. The other nine batters contributed 20 runs to the total. Phoenix in response made 45/1 with Matthews finishing a fine all-round game with 24.
Tonight, Phoenix will come up against Novel Sports Southern Tridents at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba.
