An­dre De­von Par­ris, the man ac­cused of mur­der­ing his two-year-old son, Ja­heim Roberts, have been com­mit­ted to stand tri­al.

Roberts, 24, was or­dered to stand tri­al at the next sit­ting of the As­sizes, when the pre­lim­i­nary in­quiry came to an end be­fore Chief Mag­is­trate Sher­man Mc Nicolls yes­ter­day. Par­ris was charged with beat­ing Roberts to death at his Diego Mar­tin home on De­cem­ber 9, 2008. An au­top­sy con­duct­ed on the child's body re­vealed he died from a frac­tured skull.

Be­fore read­ing the com­mit­tal or­der, Mc Nicolls told the ac­cused beat­ing a child was law­ful once it was done in mod­er­a­tion. "But if he is do­ing it in a fit of rage, then there is in­deed an in­tent to cause griev­ous bod­i­ly harm," Mc Nicolls said. The ac­cused was rep­re­sent­ed by at­tor­ney Asha Watkins while Giselle Heller pros­e­cut­ed. WPC Lawrence of Re­gion I Homi­cide Bu­reau laid the charge.
