Cam­era­man Akeel Math­i­son's love for com­put­ers may have cost him his life. Yes­ter­day, his fa­ther George Math­i­son said his death has caused him to see Akeel in a dif­fer­ent light. "Af­ter lis­ten­ing to what peo­ple had to say about him. I had a spe­cial son. Some­one said he was the most gen­er­ous youth man in the whole of South," he said. Math­i­son was de­liv­er­ing the eu­lo­gy at his son's fu­ner­al ser­vice at the Co­coyea Open Bible Church, San Fer­nan­do, yes­ter­day.

Math­i­son said his re­la­tion­ship with his son be­came "tight" when Akeel start­ed San Fer­nan­do Boys' RC School. "We had more than a fa­ther/son re­la­tion­ship, more like broth­ers," he said. De­scrib­ing his son as a rich kid, he said, "At age 15 Akeel was mind­ing him­self. He de­vel­oped a love for com­put­ers. He nev­er took a com­put­er course in his life, but he mas­tered com­put­ers." Math­i­son said on the fate­ful day his son, who worked at Acts Chan­nel 9, a re­li­gious tele­vi­sion sta­tion, went to pur­chase lunch. But, he made a stop in the In­ter­net cafe.

"You know the love for com­put­ers," he said. Akeel was stabbed as he left the In­ter­net cafe. "Maybe if he get kill late in the night I could have said if this boy had lis­ten this would not have hap­pen. But, this thing hap­pen three o' clock in the day." He was killed when a man stabbed him for his Black­ber­ry cell­phone last week Fri­day. Math­i­son said he could hon­est­ly say that Akeel en­joyed his life. While be­ing com­fort­ed by her fa­ther, Zwe­na tear­ful­ly re­flect­ed on the good times she shared with her old­er broth­er. His bur­ial took place at the Par­adise Ceme­tery.
