The funeral service for former national shot put champion Hubert Maingot was held yesterday at Guy's Funeral Home on the Southern Main Road in Couva at 2 pm. The 1983 Pan American Games bronze medallist, died at age 56 after suffering a stroke at the San Fernando General Hospital last Friday.
National Amateur Athletics Association president, Ephraim Serrette said Maingot's death was a great loss to track and field.
"Hubert's contribution is one which would be sorely missed. He always wanted to do good for the sport and people like him are hard to come by," said Serrette. He added: "Hubert was also a very fun person to be around. Apart from his contribution his personality is something we will also miss."
Apart from his bronze at the 1983 Pan American Games in Venezuela, Maingot also won bronze at the CAC Games in Puerto Rico in 1989 and Venezuela in 1977.
