?Eighth time lucky for aptly-named La Fortunata at Kempton tonight? Chances are John Jenkins' charge will score in the Maiden Stakes over five furlongs of polytrack, judged on her recent, career-best effort over course and distance, fifteen days ago.
Consistency usually brings reward and La Fortunata, beaten only a head under Jimmy Quinn, will again be partnered by the 'pocket rocket' Irishman. Prior to her latest run, this Lucky Story filly was ridden six times by Adrian McCarthy, who will be sorry to have lost out, if indeed, overdue success is finally secured. It's no push-over. Key Art and Robens Rock are virtually certain to figure and once-raced, Chat De La Buro is strongly-fancied but my time-handicap indicates La Fortunata has, at least, 7lb in hand.
The TH is on the line and so is Country Road, one of fourteen decs for the Maiden stakes over eleven furlongs. Muzo and a couple of un-raced runners from fashionable yards, are bound to be well-backed but Country Road, trained by Peter Chapple-Hyam and ridden by Alan Munro, should make the placings, by default. Brighton stages an afternoon fixture. It looks difficult but Hayley Turner rides this tricky course well and rides twice-raced Activate, again, in the Maiden Stakes over a mile. Activate is going the right way and with 'daily earner' aboard, I'm in.
