?A new $100 bill will be cir­cu­lat­ed to com­mem­o­rate the Com­mon­wealth Heads of Gov­ern­ment Meet­ing (CHOGM) that will be held from No­vem­ber 27-29.

Joan John, deputy gov­er­nor, op­er­a­tions, Cen­tral Bank, said the new bill will be in cir­cu­la­tion with­in weeks and will be le­gal ten­der. "This is a nor­mal cir­cu­la­tion note, so it will be spent like a nor­mal $100 bill. It will cir­cu­late side by side with ex­ist­ing notes af­ter the CHOGM events are fin­ished. We ex­pect to put these notes in­to cir­cu­la­tion over the next three or four weeks," she said. John said this at the launch of the new note at the Cen­tral Bank, Port-of-Spain, yes­ter­day. "Banks nor­mal­ly come in­to us and get cur­ren­cy and as they take $100 notes, they will be tak­ing the new notes, and through the com­mer­cial banks, it will go out in­to the pub­lic," she said. John said the next step will be get­ting the word out on these new notes to the pub­lic.

"We will be giv­ing brochures and posters to banks, cred­it unions–peo­ple who han­dle mon­ey so that they will know the fea­tures of the notes," John said.

She said all the se­cu­ri­ty fea­tures of the cur­rent $100 notes in cir­cu­la­tion re­main.

John said there are two changes to the front of the $100 bill.
