Caledonia gets Ma Pau quarters test

Ti­tle-hold­er, Cale­do­nia AIA of Mor­vant/Laven­tille will come up against fel­low Pro League club, Ma Pau in the fea­ture match of the T&T Foot­ball Fed­er­a­tion FA Tro­phy quar­ter­fi­nal round on Mon­day. Cale­do­nia, which de­feat­ed an­oth­er Pro League club, De­fence Force, 2-0 in its round-of-16 clash last Mon­day, and Ma Pau, will meet in the first match of a dou­ble-head­er at the Mar­vin Lee Sta­di­um, Ma­coya, from 5 pm. The Wood­brook-based Ma Pau in on­ly its sec­ond year of pro­fes­sion­al foot­ball stormed in­to the quar­ter­fi­nals with a 4-1 win over bmo­bile Joe Pub­lic's Su­per League line-up. Two hours lat­er, Dig­i­cel Pro League cham­pi­on, Joe Pub­lic, a three-time FA win­ners (2001, 2004 & 2007), and chas­ing a fourth ti­tle for the sea­son, will face its East­ern Foot­ball As­so­ci­a­tion club­mates, Joe Pub­lic, which was one of three as­so­ci­a­tion teams to reach the last eight.

The "East­ern Li­ons" pro­fes­sion­al squad booked its place in the quar­ter­fi­nals with a 7-1 maul­ing of Dathea FC while its EFA coun­ter­paths blanked Pa­lo Seco 3-0. A dou­ble-head­er is al­so card­ed for the Ato Boldon Sta­di­um, Cou­va, where Pro League duo, W Con­nec­tion and Unit­ed Petrotrin will fan­cy it chances of reach­ing the semi­fi­nals.

In the first match at the Cou­va venue, W Con­nec­tion, which has en­joyed a lean sea­son, will do bat­tle with EFA FA Tro­phy cham­pi­on, Val­trin Unit­ed. The "Savonet­ta Boys", win­ner in 1999, 2000 and 2002, over­came Pro League ri­val, Cli­co San Juan Jabloteh 3-1 in a bat­tle of for­mer win­ners while Val­trin stunned Su­per League club, De­fence Force.

The "Oil­men", who claimed a 1-0 ex­tra-time win over T&TEC, will en­ter­tain an­oth­er South-based team, Siparia Spurs in the sec­ond match.

Spurs got past T&T Air Guard/Coast Guard 3-2 in its round-of-16 clash.

Fol­low­ing Mon­day's match­es, the semi­fi­nal draw will take place on Tues­day De­cem­ber 1. The FA win­ner will col­lect $80,000, the FA tro­phy and 25 gold medals while the run­ner-up get $40,000 and 25 sil­ver medals. The los­ing semi­fi­nal­ists each col­lect $15,000 with the qual­i­fiers for the last16 re­ceiv­ing $1,250 each. Oth­er awards in­clude $2,000 each for the "Most Valu­able Play­er" of the tour­na­ment and the scor­er of the most goals. The Fair Play re­cip­i­ent will get $5,000.
