"Too much going on for me to be in my bed, Ah go sleep when ah dead." These are some of the lyrics to Dil-e-Nadan's latest soca release, Cyah Sleep, which is already receiving tremendous airplay. Dil-e-Nadan frontman, Raymond Ramnarine, said the song was written by Kerwin Dubois, who has penned songs for other soca acts, including Machel Montano. Ramnarine said: "I met Kerwin two years ago at Miami Carnival and he said, 'I have to write a song for you'.
"When the song was written, we were on tour at the time, so the vocals were done in Europe and Miami and the finishing touches were completed when we came home." Ramnarine said he made the decision to go the groovy soca route instead of the power soca because he believes groovy songs last well after Carnival. The group performed Cyah Sleep at the recent Soka in Moka fete and the response was amazing.
Ramnarine said, "It was the first time we played there and the crowd's reaction to the song was awesome. To see people like the President and his wife swaying to your music is an indescribable feeling." Dil-e-Nadan has also released their chutney offering for the year, titled Doh Blame Me. Ramnarine said, "We will not be entering the Chutney Soca Monarch this year because the band is solidly booked in both the chutney and soca arenas and also we don't really like too many of these competitions.
