The San Fernando Hill was the place to be as thousands of patrons flocked to the venue for one of the biggest cooler fetes to hit the southland thus far for the Carnival season. Billed Black to Blue, the breakfast party, which was held on January 10, was organised by Illusions and featured some of this season's most popular artistes. In addition to the music, there was food available for patrons and a booth was set up where partygoers could receive body painting and temporary tattoos. The first artistes to step onstage, around 3.30 am, were Jean Michael Ali Bocas–aka Makamillion–and young rising star Orlando Octave.
Together, the pair took the crowd by storm and drove patrons wild with their hits Hot From Yuh Born and Roll. For a solid hour they rocked the crowd, which seemed to become more and more frenzied as time passed. Female patrons screamed and many surged stageside to get as close to the entertainers as possible. By the time the show's headliners, JW and Blaze, took the stage around 4.40 am for an hour-long performance, the crowd was already thoroughly hyped and ready for action. They screamed, shouted and jumped from left to right, as the duo started with their extremely popular Palance–which they sang four times to satisfy the crowd.
Eat Ah Food was next on the song list and the 2009 selection kept the momentum flowing and the crowd pumped. What they lacked in quantity of songs, the pair more than made up for in energy, as they further entertained the crowd by performing their own extremely humorous remixed versions of some of dancehall singer Vybz Kartel's popular songs. Speaking after the fete, which ended well after 6 am, promoters Damian Baboolal, Eldon Hicks, Craig Phalloo and Larry Clarence, who make up the group Illusions, all said the event was a success. They said it had been staged to boost the quality of entertainment life in the south.
