The clue to solving the four murders of a Gonzales family lies in scientific evidence gathered at the crime scene.
According to Deputy Police Commissioner Gilbert Reyes yesterday, investigators were awaiting the results after certain samples of blood and other fluids that were gathered by officers of the Crime Scene Unit (CSU) shortly after the killings. During an attack at their family home on February 22, Carmen McHutchinson, 68, and her step-grandchildren, Asha, 24, LL,13, and Javon Roberts, 18, were shot dead. Two of the survivors – four-year-old Zara Sylvester and her aunt, 23-year-old Jehial Roberts – were listed as stable at hospital up to late yesterday.
Reyes said the samples, which have been sent abroad to be analysed, normally took one week to be completed. He said because of a "setback" local police were yet to receive the results. He added: "After the results are completed then we can move in a different direction. "But right now we are awaiting the results of the scientific evidence and once we get that we will know how to proceed," Reyes said.
Giving the assurance the perpetrators would be brought to justice, the senior cop said the police also were working on new leads. He said: "We have every reason to believe this case would be solved. "The police are doing all they can to bring this to a close and it's only a matter of time," Reyes said.
