T&T's hopes of reaching the semifinal of Group A of the 2010 Fed Cup American Group 11 were dashed by Costa Rica (CRC) which won their match-up at the National Tennis Club, Guayaquil, Ecuador, on Thursday. T&T went into the encounter on a high after rebounding from its opening day 3-0 defeat at the hands of Bahamas to register a 3-0 win over Dominican Republic. In the first match, United States-based Lee-Ann Lingo still nursing a shoulder injury got the better of Camila Quesada 5-7 in the first set. But it went downhill from there as Quesada rallied back to take the second set 6-4, before closing out the third at 6-2 for the win.
Olivia Bennett like Lingo started by taking the first set 5-7, however, she too lost her way in the second as Laura Viquez only dropped one game in the set taking it 6-1. Bennett put up a fight in the third and final set but Viquez was able to hold her off to claim the set at 6-4 and the match. The doubles match only lasted two sets as the T&T pair of Dayna Grazette and Lingo was put to the sword in the first set by Melissa Golfin and Quesada 6-1. The twin island women who were playing together for the first time in the tournament regrouped and battled back in the second to 5-5, however the Costa Rican pair was able to win the next two games to take the match to complete the 3-0 win.
