?Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Anil Roberts will be the feature speaker at the presentation function marking the conclusion of the 2010 cricket clinic of the Mohammed's Electrical Coaching Academy (MECA) on Sunday at the Aranguez Sports Club. This season-ending event will be the first significant occasion for MECA since the death of the organisation's founder, Roustom Mohammed, who passed away a week after the presentation function for the 2009 football clinic last December.
Established in 1993, MECA has provided an important pathway for the sporting development of hundreds of youngsters in its primary catchment area of San Juan and environs. Several of the graduates of the cricket programme have gone on to age-group and senior zonal and national representative level, including Vikash Mohan, captain of the T&T team that emerged triumphant at the West Indies Under-15 Championships two months ago.
While this season's enrollment of students was reduced from the previous year, the number of participants was still in excess of 100, a testament to MECA's reputation in the community as an excellent option for parents and guardians seeking healthy and positive extra-curricular activities for their children.
Local government area representative Nazeemool Mohammed and former T&T Cricket Board's CEO Forbes Persaud, both longtime supporters of MECA, are also expected to attend Sunday's event. The gala function is expected to start at 9 am.
