Carlista Mohammed, the reigning women's singles champion bagged her second title of the Tennis Association of T&T's National Open Championships. The talented Mohammed teamed-up with Lendl Smith and defeated the pair of Brent King and Leah Alcala 62, 60 in the Mixed Doubles final at the Eddie Taylor Public Courts in St Clair yesterday evening. It was also a double for Smith, who earlier in the day partnered with Ivor Grazette to win the Men's Doubles final, taking over two hours to outplay singles champion Yohansey Williams and his partner Tyler Meyers.
Smith and Grazette took the first set 64 though Williams and Meyers battled their way back into contention, winning the second 75. In the resulting "Super Tiebreak", things were close again as Smith and Grazette got to ten points with their opponents on left on seven. On Monday, the Guardian reported that Duncan Smart had beaten Rawle Boyce 64, 61 in the tournament's Veterans' Semifinals. However, the match was the Veterans' final and was won by Boyce 64, 61. The newspaper regrets the error.
