South­ern Di­vi­sion Po­lice are call­ing on the pub­lic to as­sist in iden­ti­fy­ing a man whose body was found float­ing in the Gulf of Paria yes­ter­day. Po­lice said around 12.35 pm, fish­er­man Richard In­niss, 40, of King's Wharf, was stand­ing on the jet­ty when he no­ticed the body. Up­on clos­er in­ves­ti­ga­tion, he saw it to be a man of East In­di­an de­scent float­ing face down. The corpse was bare­back and clad in blue long pants with a red cord around the waist.

The corpse was bob­bing in the vicin­i­ty of the Cus­toms House. A team of of­fi­cers, led by Cpl Williams, vis­it­ed the scene, ac­com­pa­nied by of­fi­cers of the Fire Ser­vices, led by act­ing FSO Sam­rath. Dis­trict Med­ical Of­fi­cer Dr See­lochan viewed the body and or­dered its re­moval to the San Fer­nan­do mor­tu­ary. Po­lice said an au­top­sy will be done pend­ing iden­ti­fi­ca­tion. Cpl Williams is con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
