Southern Division Police are calling on the public to assist in identifying a man whose body was found floating in the Gulf of Paria yesterday. Police said around 12.35 pm, fisherman Richard Inniss, 40, of King's Wharf, was standing on the jetty when he noticed the body. Upon closer investigation, he saw it to be a man of East Indian descent floating face down. The corpse was bareback and clad in blue long pants with a red cord around the waist.
The corpse was bobbing in the vicinity of the Customs House. A team of officers, led by Cpl Williams, visited the scene, accompanied by officers of the Fire Services, led by acting FSO Samrath. District Medical Officer Dr Seelochan viewed the body and ordered its removal to the San Fernando mortuary. Police said an autopsy will be done pending identification. Cpl Williams is continuing investigations.
