Motorists driving along the Solomon Hochoy Highway near Claxton Bay are urged to proceed with caution as a bush fire has ignited a section of the Forres Park Landfill.

According to a release issued by the Trinidad and Tobago Solid Waste Management Company Limited (SWMCOL), the fire started on the outskirts of the landfill as a bush fire and quickly spread inwards.

Copious amounts of smoke are intermittently impacting the surrounding areas and highway causing visibility problems for motorists, the release said.

All Agencies - T&T Fire Service, Water and Sewage Authority and The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management are at this time at the site attempting to bring the fire under control.

SWMCOL apologises for all inconveniences caused and will provide further updates as information becomes available.

Despite finding out just three days earlier—on December 23—that I had breast cancer, I still got dressed and showed up on December 26, Boxing Day, for a birthday party. I didn’t go to escape the truth. I went to remind myself I was still here, still living, still me.
