Rapist taxi driver identified

The PH taxi dri­ver who al­leged­ly raped a fe­male Spe­cial Re­serve Po­lice (SRP) con­sta­ble at gun­point was point­ed out in an iden­ti­fi­ca­tion pa­rade yes­ter­day.

The sus­pect, from South Oropouche, was held on Mon­day hours af­ter his vic­tim es­caped his clutch­es. She was tak­en to the Oropouche Po­lice Sta­tion where she iden­ti­fied him from among oth­er pos­si­ble sus­pects. The sus­pect, who has a pre­vi­ous charge for a sex­u­al of­fence, is ex­pect­ed to un­der­go more iden­ti­fi­ca­tion pa­rades through­out the South West Di­vi­sion. He is ex­pect­ed to be charged with rape and at­tempt­ed mur­der.

The Guardian learned that he is in his 30s and is mar­ried, with three chil­dren.

Ac­cord­ing to re­ports, the woman con­sta­ble left her home at La Ro­maine around 3 am Mon­day and board­ed the sus­pect's taxi. She was ex­pect­ed to re­port to a polling sta­tion to pro­vide se­cu­ri­ty for Mon­day's Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment elec­tion.

She told po­lice she was the lone pas­sen­ger and the dri­ver went to the near­by ser­vice sta­tion for fu­el. In­stead of tak­ing her to the polling sta­tion, he took her to a se­clud­ed area in South Oropouche where he put a gun to her head and raped her.

The woman even­tu­al­ly be­gan to fight with her at­tack­er and ran off. It was al­leged that he fired two shots at her but he missed and the gun stuck.
