The National Cycling Centre (NCC) in Couva will now open at the end of August.
The National Cycling Centre was originally scheduled to host a cycling event called the Grand Prix of Balmain from June 12-14 to officially open the Centre, but will now tentatively open at the end of next month according to T&T Cycling Federation president Robert Farrier.
The NCC is expected to make Couva the main hub for sport in the country, as the town is already home to the National Cricket Centre and the Ato Boldon Stadium.
When the world class National Cycling Centre opens its doors it will encourage top international cyclists to compete in T&T. The National Cycling Centre will have a capacity of approximately 2,500 patrons, who will view the excitement around the 250-metre track.
The Centre will also feature a temperature and humidity controlled atmosphere, video boards and a state of the art electronic timing system just to name a few.
In an earlier interview, former national cyclist Gene Samuel said he is keenly anticipating the opening of the Cycling Centre. Samuel added that the young cyclists will have a home.
