The T&T Youth Philharmonic (TTYP) will host Classics Rule! Movies Rock! on August 23 and 24, at Queen's Hall, St Ann's, at 7.30 pm and 5.30 pm, respectively.

The concerts will be the culmination of St Augustine Chamber Orchestra Saco/TTYP's tenth annual three-week music workshop where over 200 string, wind, brass and percussion students, ages four to 24, for the first time were taught for 90 contact hours by principals of TTYP, supervised by Heemath Jahoor and Jhonny Cubides of Fesnojiv programme in Venezuela, and music director, Kenneth Listhrop.

The first part of Classics Rule! will feature, by popular student demand, TTYP performing the Big Five Symphony No 5 in E minor, Op 64, by famous Russian composer of the Romantic era Pyotr Illyich Tchaikovsky (1840 1893). The Symphony was last performed for the first time in T&T in 2010, by TTYP. Listhrop will again lead the orchestra.

The second part, Movies Rock!, promises to be equally entertaining with some of the world famous movie and TV themes including The Chronicles of Narnia, Game of Thrones, Pirates of the Caribbean, King Arthur, the Magnificent Seven, and Pink Panther.

The grand finale will feature the crowd favourite Shaft by Isaac Hayes, which was well received by the audience at TTYP's 2013 Motown, Super 70's Forever concert.

Assistant music director Tracell Frederick will conduct TTYP's Junior/Intermediate Orchestras and Listhrop's TTYP's Advanced Orchestra.

Saco/TTYP's school and community programmes continue to embrace students from the Arima West Government Primary School, the University School, St Augustine, St George's College, Barataria and the Bishop Anstey High School East/Trinity College East, Trincity.

Additionally, Saco/TTYP continues to recognise and applaud the kind generosity of the corporate community, namely National Gas Company of T&T and Atlantic for its ongoing support of the annual music workshop.

Saco/TTYP premier music education programme is reputed to be the largest of its kind in the Caribbean, and the only youth symphony orchestra in T&T.

This week, Listhrop said: "We are equally proud of our junior and intermediate orchestra, as they ensure that TTYP has a future, they are the future. Saco/TTYP remains committed to the establishment of an orchestral tradition in T&T. Our dream is to legitimise our presence through own property and music."

The orchestra rehearses weekly on Saturdays between 6 pm to 9 pm at the University School in St Augustine.

?Admission for this production is $150 and tickets are available daily until August 20 at Bishop Anstey High School East/Trinity College East, Trincity from 9 am to 4.30 pm and at Queen's Hall Box Office daily, between noon and 6 pm.
