Art Connect is a groundbreaking feature documentary that engages young people from Success Laventille.
Produced by Evoke Studios and directed by Spanish director Miquel Galofre, this film observes the participants of an expressive arts programme that incorporates music, dance, poetry, and painting as a means of positive transformation.
A release from the producers said the film's release is timely. This production was created in the recent year and it addresses pertinent socio-economic concerns faced by many young people; not only in the location specified, but throughout the nation in communities that are often stigmatised or challenged with poor living conditions.
These inspiring young people were given access to Go Pro cameras and were encouraged to record their daily experiences. They documented their interests, their activities at home, at school, and during recreation. Through this honest lens, said the release, we witness their hopes, fears and imagination first hand, and we instantly connect with them.
Miquel Galofre is an award-winning director from Barcelona, and is known for the films Why Do Jamaicans Run So Fast?, Hit Me With Music and Songs of Redemption.
Charlotte Elias is executive producer of the film.
Evoke Studios is a non-governmental organisation investing in creative visionaries towards evolutionary social change. Its work recognises creativity and culture as key tools for economic and social development.
