Nine days af­ter a 30-year-old Ch­agua­nas man bru­tal­ly gunned down his ex-girl­friend Deshon Sobers and her cousin Trevon, he was caught yes­ter­day while on the run from po­lice.In a mas­sive man­hunt, the sus­pect, who was first seen near his En­ter­prise, home was even­tu­al­ly ar­rest­ed around 9 am at Queen Street, Ari­ma.When Ch­agua­nas CID led by Sgt Jitin­dra Toolaram learned of the man's where­abouts, they quick­ly be­gan comb­ing the Crown Trace area.

How­ev­er, he man­aged to elude them by ly­ing in the back seat of a car, which passed through a few back roads to get to the Churchill-Roo­sevelt High­way. The of­fi­cers gave chase and alert­ed Ari­ma Po­lice that the sus­pect was head­ed to a friend's home in the East.Ari­ma CID led by Sgt Hare­wood re­spond­ed and the man was cor­nered de­spite ef­forts to out­run the of­fi­cers. It was al­leged that dur­ing the chase, he threw the mur­der weapon at the side of the high­way. Po­lice, how­ev­er, did not find the gun.

He was ar­rest­ed and tak­en to the Ch­agua­nas Po­lice Sta­tion where he is ex­pect­ed to un­der­go sev­er­al iden­ti­fi­ca­tion pa­rades be­fore be­ing charged for two counts of mur­der, two counts of at­tempt­ed mur­der, and firearm re­lat­ed of­fences.

Po­lice re­port­ed that on Oc­to­ber 23 the sus­pect went to Sober's Fran­cois Street, En­ter­prise, home around 1 pm, de­mand­ing to speak to her. When her grand­moth­er, Veron­i­ca, told him to leave her alone, he barged in­to the house and shot Trevon, who tried to stop him. He then ran to the bed­room where he shot Sobers sev­er­al times. Sobers' grand­fa­ther, Glen­ford, 73, an am­putee and an­oth­er cousin, Ja­mal, were al­so shot.

Sobers died with­in min­utes, while Trevon died on the way to the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex. Glen­ford and Ja­mal are still re­cov­er­ing from their in­juries.On Oc­to­ber 24 a man claim­ing to be the sus­pect called Crime Watch host Ian Al­leyne dur­ing the show and said he had no re­grets over the in­ci­dent. He said he drank Pun­cheon rum be­fore car­ry­ing out the killings. Al­though he ad­mit­ted to be­ing so abu­sive that Sobers had a re­strain­ing or­der against him, he said it was she who still re­turned to him.
