Andrea Mitchell has appeared before a Chaguanas magistrate on two counts of causing death by dangerous driving. Mitchell was granted $40,000 bail on each charge when he appeared before Third Court Magistrate Alexander Prince on Wednesday.
The charges arose out of an accident near Chase Village Flyover along the Solomon Hochoy Highway on December 28 which claimed the lives of Hassim Ramjohn, 52, and Katemati Rampersad, 59. They were returning from a birthday party in a car driven by Rampersad's husband Jagdeo Rampersad when a van allegedly struck his car from behind.
The car spun several times before crashing into the bushes.Rampersad died at Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex at Mt Hope and Ramjohn died on the scene.
Mitchell was not called upon to plead to the charges since they were laid indictably. Magistrate Prince transferred the matter to the First Court for January 30.
