The Na­tion­al Sin­gle Pan Pre­lim­i­nar­ies take place this week­end, start­ing at Shaw Park, To­ba­go tonight. To­mor­row, the ac­tion shifts to The Pad­dock, Queen's Park Sa­van­nah when 29 bands from the North Zone will face the judges.

Ten bands will par­tic­i­pate in the South Zone com­pe­ti­tion which takes place at the Pleas­antville Com­mu­ni­ty Cen­tre on Sat­ur­day and the pre­lim­i­nar­ies cul­mi­nate on Sun­day at Ari­ma Velo­drome with 20 bands from the East Zone.

A re­lease from Pan Trin­ba­go about the se­lec­tion of tunes by the bands said the rule gov­ern­ing Mu­sic Se­lec­tion states: "For the pur­pose of the com­pe­ti­tion, each par­tic­i­pat­ing steel­band may se­lect and per­form any ca­lyp­so, as long as the same se­lec­tion has not been played by said steel­band in a pre­vi­ous Panora­ma Com­pe­ti­tion."

At the end of the Pre­lim­i­nar­ies, 32 Sin­gle Pan Bands from all the re­gions will move for­ward to the Na­tion­al Sin­gle Pan Bands and Small Con­ven­tion­al Bands se­mi-fi­nals on Jan­u­ary 26 at the Queen's Park Sa­van­nah.
