UWI in second straight win in Courts netball

Three days fol­low­ing its vic­to­ry over reign­ing cham­pi­on Po­lice, UWI got an­oth­er win in the Cham­pi­onship Di­vi­sion of the Courts All Sec­tors Net­ball League on Mon­day when the club trumped Jabloteh 29-25 at the East­ern Re­gion­al In­door Sport Are­na, Tacarigua.

UWI led through all quar­ters, al­beit nar­row­ly, in a low-scor­ing en­counter, with Abeni Tay­lor again lead­ing the way with the night's high­est goal tal­ly. Tay­lor scored 15 goals, the same num­ber from her last out­ing, but was sharp­er on Mon­day with just 24 at­tempts, as op­posed to the 32 at­tempts against Po­lice last Fri­day. UWI's goal at­tack Akeela Ro­driguez helped out with 14 goals from 25 at­tempts. De­bra Beck­les (11 goals from 21 at­tempts) and De­bra Bain (10 goals from 13 at­tempts) were Jabloteh's top scor­ers on the evening.

The win saw UWI climb up the lad­der to join Jabloteh on sev­en points, for joint-fourth spot and five be­hind leader Bermudez.Mean­while, two Retro Di­vi­sion match­es were played, with leader TSTT and Harlem rack­ing up easy vic­to­ries.Led by on-form goal-at­tack De­bra Alie, who scored an im­pres­sive 27 goals from 36 at­tempts, TSTT cruised to its fifth con­sec­u­tive win of the cam­paign with a 34-26 tri­umph over CCS which was well rep­re­sent­ed by Ju­lia Brit­to, who scored a healthy 24 goals from 38 shots.In the first match, Harlem dropped Les Femmes 23-18, with An­toinette Jack­son on tar­get with 23 items from 40 ef­forts.
