De­vi­ka Sama­roo would have been cel­e­brat­ing her 26th birth­day to­day but in­stead her fam­i­ly is plan­ning her fu­ner­al.Po­lice said the young woman of In­ver­ness Road, Princes Town, died when the car in which she was trav­el­ling, crashed in­to a light­pole at Ch­agua­nas ear­ly yes­ter­day.The ac­ci­dent left Sama­roo's fam­i­ly in a state of shock be­cause it was the first time Sama­roo ever stayed out so late at night.

Her fa­ther Gan­gaper­sad Sama­roo said the young girl was stu­dious and ca­reer ori­ent­ed. "She don't drink, smoke or lime. It was the first time she ever went out at nights be­cause she said she want­ed to cel­e­brate her birth­day," he said. He added that Sama­roo at­tend­ed the Mod­ern School of Busi­ness and was await­ing a job.

"She sent out ap­pli­ca­tions all over and she was work­ing as a store clerk at Carl­ton Cen­tre for the time," Gan­gaper­sad said. He said his fam­i­ly was plan­ning a spe­cial din­ner for Sama­roo's birth­day. "Now we have to see about her fu­ner­al. Her moth­er (Si­ta Sama­roo) tak­ing this re­al­ly bad and her broth­er An­drew is not speak­ing since he heard the news," Gan­gaper­sad said.

Po­lice said Sama­roo was re­turn­ing home with a male friend af­ter lim­ing at a night­club around 1 am yes­ter­day. While pro­ceed­ing on the south-bound car­riage­way of the high­way, the car slammed in­to a light­pole on the left side. Sama­roo died on the spot.Her body was viewed by a Dis­trict Med­ical Of­fi­cer and then re­moved to the San Fer­nan­do Mor­tu­ary. In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.
