KINGSTON–T&T knocked over five-time defending champions Jamaica cheaply to grab the advantage on the opening day of their sixth round clash in the Regional Four-Day Championship yesterday.
Sent in at Sabina Park, Jamaica were bundled out for 147 and at the close, T&T were 36 for one in reply.Jamaica were 104 for three at one stage but collapsed to lose their last seven wickets for a mere 43 runs.
Left-arm spinner Kavesh Kantasingh, in his first match of the regional season, led T&T's attack with five for 35 while seamer Rayad Emrit kept up his good form with four for 35.Danza Hyatt top scored with 57 and Brenton Parchment got 25, but Jamaica failed to cope with T&T's varied bowling line up.
T&T, however, suffered an early setback in the fifth over when they lost out-of-favour West Indies opener Adrian Barath for three with the score on five for one.Lendl Simmons, who finished the day on unbeaten on 25, then saw T&T safely through to the close with no further loss.
Jamaica were given a strong start by Hyatt and Parchment who put on 52 to deny the Trinidadians any early success. They raised the half-century stand off just 88 deliveries before Emrit struck some telling blows to engineer a slide. He bowled Parchment, removed Nkrumah Bonner for eight at 64 for two before prising out Jermaine Blackwood without scoring, with just eight runs added.
Parchment faced 58 balls in 76 minutes at the crease and struck three fours.Jamaica stumbled to lunch on 78 for three, with Hyatt unbeaten on 26 and captain Tamar Lambert on five, and carried on well afterward to raise the 100-run mark off 192 balls.
The pair had added 32 when Lambert was caught by Imran Khan to give Emrit his fourth scalp of the innings at 104 for four.Hyatt raised his half-century off 127 balls in 186 minutes with four fours and a six but could not prevent the slide as Kantasingh got stuck into the Jamaica's middle and lower order
He eventually perished at 133 for seven, lbw to fast bowler Shannon Gabriel. (CMC)
