A 51-year-old labourer was found dead in his bed yesterday morning.Relatives of Kesraj Maraj, of Racecourse Road, Carapo, said they went to check on him around 9 am yesterday and found his body wrapped in a sheet and lying on a bed.Maraj was last seen by relatives on Monday night before he went to his one-room house, where he lived alone, police said.
A female relative went to check on him yesterday and found a glass window in the living room broken. The woman saw Maraj lying in blood on his bed.Officers of Northern Division Homicide, including Supt Nanan, Insp Simon and Sgt Figaro, visited the scene. They said Maraj had been shot twice and chopped several times about the body.
Although senior officers yesterday said they were pursuing several leads, the T&T Guardian learnt that the police had two theories surrounding the murder. One of them was that Maraj was reportedly squatting and might have been killed because he refused move.Maraj's killing brought the murder toll to 118 for the year.
