Vice Pres­i­dent of Op­er­a­tions at Caribbean Air­lines (CAL), Cap­tain Jag­mo­han Singh, has been ap­point­ed to run the day-to-day op­er­a­tions of the air­line fol­low­ing the sud­den res­ig­na­tion of act­ing CEO Robert Cor­bie on Fri­day.In an in­ter­view, CAL com­mu­ni­ca­tions man­ag­er Clint Williams said, "Cap­tain Jag­mo­han Singh, the vice pres­i­dent of op­er­a­tions, is cur­rent­ly at the helm.

"He was ap­point­ed by the board to man­age the day to day op­er­a­tions of the air­line at this time."On the is­sue of Cor­bie's sud­den de­par­ture, Williams said, "Nat­u­ral­ly the staff are sur­prised by Mr Cor­bie's res­ig­na­tion, but we are an air­line and we are used to go­ing through chal­lenges and sur­pris­es."The op­er­a­tions of the air­line of course will con­tin­ue with the ex­cel­lent team that is in place."

Cor­bie re­leased a state­ment to CAL staff mem­bers on Sat­ur­day, in­di­cat­ing that he had ten­dered his res­ig­na­tion on Fri­day and the board had ac­cept­ed it with im­me­di­ate ef­fect."Af­ter 29 years in the avi­a­tion in­dus­try dur­ing which I have seen, learned and ex­pe­ri­enced much, I close this chap­ter of my ca­reer, with a heavy heart but op­ti­mistic out­look," Cor­bie said.

"The de­ci­sion to leave the air­line that has been my vir­tu­al home for so many years has not come eas­i­ly, but I do so with the knowl­edge that my lega­cy is the strong team at the helm of the op­er­a­tions of the com­pa­ny."CAL chair­man Philip Mar­shall could not be con­tact­ed for fur­ther com­ment yes­ter­day.
