"Parang Fever is in the air. Parang Fiesta & Afterwork Lime promises to have more than 800 in attendance," said Julian Wilkins, president of the Rotary Club of Maracas/St Joseph.
This event will take place on November 22, from 6 pm–10 pm at Angostura House, Eastern Main Road, Laventille.
Wilkins noted, "We have had a great response from patrons for this event, who are looking forward to performances by popular parang groups of Carib Santa Rosa and Alma Caribena. These two parang groups will treat patrons to the melodious parang songs accompanied by their cuatro and maracas, along with violin, guitar, claves (locally known as toc-toc), box bass, tambourine, mandolin, bandol, and caja."
The guest performer will be calypsonian Baron. This year marks Baron's 42nd anniversary on stage and he is expected to mesmerise patrons with his popular parang soca hits like Spanish Woman and It's Christmas.
Nirmala Maharaj, the club's public relations director, said, "In the ambiance of Angostura House, patrons will be treated to delicious dishes of ham and hops, ham and turkey, pastels, doubles, corn soup, fruit cake, rum punch, sorrel, ginger beer and lots more."
Proceeds from this event will go towards the annual charity projects of the Rotary Club of Maracas/St Joseph such as Meals on Wheels (which caters meals for 75 elderly people each week), educational needs, wheelchairs and medical care.
