Olympic cyclist, Njisane Phillip has emerged as the Most Outstanding Cyclist 2013.He earned the accolade at the T&T Cycling Federation's National Championships Awards held at the VIP Lounge,Hasely Crawford Stadium, on Saturday.Phillip has been proudly representing T&T at meets internationally, proving himself as a world beater.Earlier this month Phillip became the T&T's first World Cup medallist at the UCI World Cup Podium when he secured silver in the men's sprint event in Manchester, England.
Back in September, he secured one gold and a silver medal at the World Series of Bicycling event–WSB International Cycling Union (UCI) Madison Cup–in Trexlertown, Pennsylvania, USA.
Jovian Gomez, 25, representing Team Drive Phrase Sport (DPS) was another big winner of the night taking home the coveted President's Trophy. To his credit Gomez was voted as theFederation's Elite Male Cyclist, while Kerliann Wellington, captured that prize in the female category.
Interviewed Gomez said,:"This is a big accomplishment for me. This is the first time I won this for my cycling career. I started racing in 2007. My father was involved in cycling. He was a casual rider. He pulled me into the sport and I just have a love for it. I love the challenge. I love racing. I love the excitement. That whole feeling of winning...it means a lot."He describes his sport gruelling and said it was tied to an unswerving passion that anyone interested or involved in cycling must possess to achieve success.
