Point Fortin may­or Clyde Paul is ap­peal­ing for the es­tab­lish­ment of a fac­ul­ty of en­gi­neer­ing in the Bor­ough. The may­or asked Sci­ence, Tech­nol­o­gy and Ter­tiary Ed­u­ca­tion Min­is­ter, Fazal Karim, to con­sid­er the sug­ges­tion. He has even sug­gest­ed that the Gov­ern­ment look at the ex­ist­ing site of the Point Fortin Area Hos­pi­tal to con­struct the fac­ul­ty when the hos­pi­tal is re­lo­cat­ed. Paul moved a mo­tion at the coun­cil's statu­to­ry meet­ing last Thurs­day. The mo­tion was unan­i­mous­ly passed. In the mo­tion, Paul not­ed that the coun­cil con­sid­ered that an in­stru­men­tal part of its man­date, was a role in hu­man de­vel­op­ment and the en­hance­ment of ed­u­ca­tion in the Bor­ough.

He said the Bor­ough of Point Fortin was the in­dus­tri­al hub of the South West penin­su­la and the lifeblood of sup­port for the large ma­jor­i­ty of its Burgess. "In con­sid­er­a­tion of the heavy in­dus­tri­al cli­mate and a na­tion­al pol­i­cy of fur­ther ex­pan­sion and di­ver­si­fi­ca­tion of in­dus­tries planned for the fu­ture and where as, trained and qual­i­fied per­son­nel to ex­e­cute this pol­i­cy will be a pri­ma­ry re­quire­ment, be it re­solved that the Min­is­ter of Sci­ence, pur­sue dili­gent­ly all the nec­es­sary steps to es­tab­lish a Fac­ul­ty of En­gi­neer­ing , res­i­dent in the Bor­ough of Point Fortin," the mo­tion read. Paul al­so called on Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty Min­is­ter John Sandy for an mod­ern fire fight­ing fa­cil­i­ty in the Bor­ough. The may­or said Point Fortin had out­grown the needs of the cur­rent fire sta­tion, which ser­viced the sur­round­ing com­mu­ni­ties from La Brea to Erin to Ica­cos.
