Health Min­is­ter Dr Fuad Khan says if he has to choose be­tween a par­ty po­si­tion and min­is­te­r­i­al port­fo­lio the wis­er choice would be a par­ty po­si­tion. In an tele­phone in­ter­view yes­ter­day, Khan said he was se­ri­ous­ly con­sid­er­ing con­test­ing the post of deputy po­lit­i­cal leader in the March 24 Unit­ed Na­tion­al Con­gress in­ter­nal elec­tions.

How­ev­er, the UNC's deputy chair­man said it is dif­fi­cult to jug­gle min­is­te­r­i­al, con­stituen­cy and par­ty re­spon­si­bil­i­ties. Khan, Mem­ber of Par­lia­ment for San Juan/Barataria, said: "I have been re­ceiv­ing a lot of calls from my con­stituen­cy mem­bers ask­ing me to con­test the deputy po­lit­i­cal leader post." Khan said he told them to give him un­til to­day, UNC Nom­i­na­tion Day, to de­cide.

Mean­while for­mer po­lit­i­cal leader Bas­deo Pan­day is keep­ing the names of the can­di­dates of Gen­er­a­tion Next par­ty close to his chest. Pan­day who is ad­vis­ing the can­di­dates has re­fused to give their names. He said he should ar­rive at Rien­zi com­plex around mid­day to­day be­cause all nom­i­na­tion pa­pers are to be de­liv­ered be­fore 4 pm.
