Health Minister Dr Fuad Khan says if he has to choose between a party position and ministerial portfolio the wiser choice would be a party position. In an telephone interview yesterday, Khan said he was seriously considering contesting the post of deputy political leader in the March 24 United National Congress internal elections.
However, the UNC's deputy chairman said it is difficult to juggle ministerial, constituency and party responsibilities. Khan, Member of Parliament for San Juan/Barataria, said: "I have been receiving a lot of calls from my constituency members asking me to contest the deputy political leader post." Khan said he told them to give him until today, UNC Nomination Day, to decide.
Meanwhile former political leader Basdeo Panday is keeping the names of the candidates of Generation Next party close to his chest. Panday who is advising the candidates has refused to give their names. He said he should arrive at Rienzi complex around midday today because all nomination papers are to be delivered before 4 pm.
