Persistent rain showers overshadowed a flashy, unbeaten half century by Deandra Dottin as the fifth and final T20I beatween West Indies and Sri Lanka had to be abandoned after 18.2 overs at the Queen's Park Oval in St Clair yesterday. The Windies women finished the series with a 3-1 advantage, to go with their 2-1 victory in the ODI portion of the tour. Dottin smashed four fours and a six during her 34-ball innings of 52 not out, which helped the home team rally to 91 for six when rain stopped play. Coming in at 14 for one in the fourth over, she added 30 with opener Staphanie Taylor (25 off 36) before the introduction of spinner Shashika Siriwardena (3.2-1-5-2) rocked the side's momentum.
Siriwardena bowled Taylor with her third delivery, neatly beating the West Indian for flight as she charged down the wicket, and trapped Shantal Daley LBW in her next over. When Shermaine Campbell (1) had her stumps shattered by Chamani Senevirathne (4-0-18-3) a few balls later, the hosts were suddenly in jeopardy at 53 for four. However, skipper Melissa Aguilleira (8 off 16) stuck around long enough to help revive the innings. After playing a maiden to Siriwardena's third over, she rotated the strike effectively to allow Dottin to cut lose and play her shots. A whopping 18 runs came off the 17th over, bowled by the Chandima Gunaratne, including a four and a six off consecutive balls by Dottin.
The pair had added 37 in just 4.2 overs when Aguillera, trying to up the tempo further, was stumped by keeper Dilani Manodara off Senevirathne. Rain ended play shortly afterwards, denying the West Indies a chance to cross the 100-run mark, which had looked unlikely just a little while earlier.
