The En­vi­ron­men­tal Man­age­ment Au­thor­i­ty (EMA) says it has giv­en a com­mit­ment to work with the Di­a­mond Vale Res­i­dents Com­mit­tee to con­trol noise pol­lu­tion caused by fetes held in the com­mu­ni­ty. A state­ment from the EMA said the au­thor­i­ty's man­ag­ing di­rec­tor/CEO Dr Joth Singh met with com­mit­tee mem­bers on the is­sue of un­want­ed noise and oth­er nui­sance fac­tors in the res­i­den­tial Di­a­mond Vale. It said he com­mend­ed the com­mit­tee for tak­ing ac­tion with such a well-or­gan­ised ap­proach. He was pre­sent­ed with a pe­ti­tion of over 200 sig­na­tures. The res­i­dents, the re­lease said, were sat­is­fied that they were able to hand-de­liv­er the pe­ti­tion to Singh.

The res­i­dents said they were be­ing af­fect­ed by noise and as­so­ci­at­ed prob­lems as­so­ci­at­ed with large fetes, es­pe­cial­ly around Car­ni­val time. The state­ment quot­ed Singh as say­ing that while he lis­tened to res­i­dents' plight, he re­mind­ed the group that: "The EMA gives per­mis­sion for events to hap­pen un­der con­trolled cir­cum­stances re­gard­ing sound lev­els. "The EMA would grant a Noise Vari­a­tion but with con­di­tions, for ex­am­ple fac­ing speak­ers away from re­cep­tors. All oth­er nui­sance fac­tors can be ad­dressed by the Po­lice Ser­vice." Singh al­so com­mend­ed the com­mit­tee for de­liv­er­ing a copy of their pe­ti­tion to the Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice.
