To commemorate the nation's 50th anniversary of independence, The Horticultural Society of Trinidad & Tobago has named this year's flower show A Golden Tribute. The show will be staged on July 7-8 at the Grand Stand, Queen's Park Savannah in Port-of-Spain, from 9 am to 6 pm. A release from the society said there will be several floral displays on show, including a replica of its exhibit produced by the society's team led by designer Joan Wilson. The exhibit earned a Silver Gilt medal at the internationally acclaimed Chelsea Flower Show in England last month.
There will be a flower arranging competition among local exponents of the art, which will be judged by a qualified panel of regional adjudicators. A limited selection of local exotic plants will be on sale. At various intervals during the show, society members will stage demonstrations on potting and caring for different types of plants. The gala opening and a special preview of the show will be held on July 6 from 6 – 8 pm. For more information, call 622-6423 or e-mail hstandt@yahoo.com
