To com­mem­o­rate the na­tion's 50th an­niver­sary of in­de­pen­dence, The Hor­ti­cul­tur­al So­ci­ety of Trinidad & To­ba­go has named this year's flower show A Gold­en Trib­ute. The show will be staged on Ju­ly 7-8 at the Grand Stand, Queen's Park Sa­van­nah in Port-of-Spain, from 9 am to 6 pm. A re­lease from the so­ci­ety said there will be sev­er­al flo­ral dis­plays on show, in­clud­ing a repli­ca of its ex­hib­it pro­duced by the so­ci­ety's team led by de­sign­er Joan Wil­son. The ex­hib­it earned a Sil­ver Gilt medal at the in­ter­na­tion­al­ly ac­claimed Chelsea Flower Show in Eng­land last month.

There will be a flower ar­rang­ing com­pe­ti­tion among lo­cal ex­po­nents of the art, which will be judged by a qual­i­fied pan­el of re­gion­al ad­ju­di­ca­tors. A lim­it­ed se­lec­tion of lo­cal ex­ot­ic plants will be on sale. At var­i­ous in­ter­vals dur­ing the show, so­ci­ety mem­bers will stage demon­stra­tions on pot­ting and car­ing for dif­fer­ent types of plants.
