Last Wednes­day-the mid­dle of the work week-had an en­tire­ly new feel, thanks to mas band Fan­ta­sy Car­ni­val. On Ju­ly 18, the band held its Car­ni­val 2013 pre-launch event ti­tled World Fan­ta­sy Day, at a pri­vate res­i­dence in St Clair, Port-of-Spain. Sav­age is the theme of the band's pret­ty mas por­tray­al for next year's Pa­rade of the Band's Com­pe­ti­tion staged by the Na­tion­al Car­ni­val Bands As­so­ci­a­tion (NC­BA). Fan­ta­sy Car­ni­val's de­sign team is again head­ed by An­tho­ny Hall and Richard Dookhdeen, of Richard and An­tho­ny Pro­duc­tions. The band's launch date is Ju­ly 28. Venue is 0'2 Park, Ch­aguara­mas.

Even though cos­tumes were not avail­able for view­ing at the event, of­fi­cials of the band leaked an im­age on Face­book the morn­ing of the event, which cre­at­ed a buzz lat­er that evening. The World Fan­ta­sy Day guest list was a vir­tu­al who's who in T&T, and it was cer­tain­ly not short of beau­ti­ful ladies. Guests were in­vit­ed to bring their cool­ers, many of which con­tained pre­mi­um drinks. Tao Sushi han­dled the cater­ing. Hats off to chefs Thomas Moses and Glo­ry Balcha­ran who whipped up six awe­some sushi de­lights, and who suc­ceed­ed in sat­is­fy­ing di­verse palettes, in­clud­ing the ve­g­ans in at­ten­dance.
