The last remaining team with a 100-per cent winning record in the 2012 BGTT First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Championship, Presentation College, will go up against one of its most difficult tests this season, third-placed Naparima College, at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. The feature match will kick off at 5 pm, following a clash between champions Shiva Boys and Pleasantville, which will begin at 3 pm. The opening round two match is a replay of the opening day match when Presentation eased past Naparima 3-0, with J'van Pontiflet, Angel Williams and Shackiel Henry all finding the back of the net. Both teams have since been on a strong run of form. After suffering its second loss on the third match day (2-0 to champions Shiva Boys), Naparima has won three straight, scoring a total of 14 goals, while allowing only one. Presentation (18 points) has also been both economical both in defence and in attack, scoring 17 goals and conceding just two since the season began.
It is off a narrow 1-0 win over Shiva on Saturday, with the winning effort coming from the team's reliable striker Henry, who scored in the 10th minute for his 10th goal in the six matches. Fourth-placed St Benedict's will be expected to pick up full points when it hosts bottom team Moruga, at La Romaine, from 3.45 pm. Up North, St Anthony's College will also be expected to pick up full points in its travels to QRC, for the 3.45 pm clash. QRC, which sits fifth in the seven-team standings has failed to pick up any points playing at home this season, as its only win and draw, were secured when it travelled to Diego Martin (3-1) and St Mary's (2-2), respectively, in the past two match days. The Tigers, meanwhile, has increased its unbeaten record since the start of last season to 25 matches, with a 5-2 victory at home over Diego Martin North, on Saturday. Going into the second round of matches, new leader Arima North Secondary, will be buoyed by its thrilling come-from-behind 4-3 victory over El Dorado East, on Saturday, as it takes on St Augustine Secondary in a key East Zone fixture, at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima, from 3.45 pm.
The two teams already drew 1-1 in the league this season, and granted the result recurs, both San Juan North and El Dorado East, which sits just one and two points off the pace, respectively, will have the chance to again take top spot in the zone. But, as with Arima and St Augustine, San Juan North and El Dorado East also played to a 1-1 stalemate in the season opener last month. The rescheduled match between Trinity College East and St Augustine on Monday failed to kick off due to a lack of match officials. In Central, new leader Chaguanas North is expected to remain on top of the standings at least for another round when it takes on second-from-bottom Tabaquite, in Chaguanas, from 3.45 pm. Chaguanas North stunned previous leader Carapichaima East 2-1 in a thrilling encounter, on Sunday, putting it a point over the latter at the top of the standings. After trailing from a second-minute "Caps" goal, Chaguanas found a late equalizer from David Maloney before Jaron Humphrey stunned Homeland Gardens with a winning effort with two minutes left in the match. Second will play third when Couva West travels to Carapichaima to take on Carapichaima North, at the same time, with the former having the chance to retake the lead with a win, granted Tabaquite pulls off an upset in its match. In Tobago, the original match day-one round of fixtures, which was scheduled to play earlier last month, will now be played today. Joint leader Scarborough Secondary will face Signal Hill at the Dwight Yorke Stadium from 5 pm, following Mason Hall and Speyside's opener at the same venue, from 3 pm.
