Twenty communities have started screening players for the Hoop of Life Community Basketball League which is set to jump off November 1. On Wednesday, the league will host a launch that involves 60 communities.
Tryouts began on Saturday in the ten sectors in Trinidad and continues today.
Players from ages 16-35 are invited to participate in the tryouts if they want to represent their communities. Each team must comprise three players under 21 years of age. Players who did not attend tryouts will not be eligible for selection. Tryouts will take place at a venue in each participating community.
So far, tryouts have taken place in Siparia, Marabella, Point Fortin, Princes Town, Arouca, Valencia, Edinburgh 500, Morvant, Carenage, San Juan, Fyzabad, La Romaine, Point Fortin, Moruga, Arima, Sangre Grande, Couva, Petit Valley, St Joseph, Fanny Village and Laventille.
Today the action shifts to Santa Flora (6 pm), Lady Hailes Avenue, San Fernando (6 pm), La Brea Basketball Court, La Brea (6 pm), Mayaro (6 pm), Maloney (6 pm), Longdenville (6 pm), Manzanilla (6 pm), Beetham Garden's (5 pm), Phase 2, Petit Valley (4 pm), St Joseph at Mt D'or Courts (6 pm).
Tomorrow, the spotlight will be on Palo Seco (6 pm), San Fernando (6 pm) at Cocoyea Courts, Gonzales (6 pm), Guayaguyare (6 pm), La Horquatta (6 pm), Toco (6 pm), Enterprise (6 pm), Belmont (6 pm) at Public Courts, Cocorite (6 pm) and Tunapuna (6 pm) at Macoya Courts.
On Wednesday 17, the curtain comes down on Penal (6 pm), Pleasantville (6 pm), Cap-de-ville (6 pm), Malabar (6 pm), St Helena (6 pm), Caledonia (6 pm), St James (4 pm), Tunapuna (6 pm) and St Joseph (6 pm).
Tryouts for Cumana, Santa Cruz and Rio Claro are on Sunday while Morvant, Moruga and Toco are on Saturday.
The winning team will earn $1 million.
