Busi­ness­man Pe­ter Gillette is the new pres­i­dent of the Mar­lins Swim Club.

Gillette de­feat­ed John Gon­salves for the post and Gillette ush­ered in eight oth­er mem­bers of his slate to form the ex­ec­u­tive for the com­ing year at the club's an­nu­al gen­er­al meet­ing held at the St An­tho­ny's Col­lege Olympic-sized pool in West­moor­ings on Tues­day.

Gillette leads a nine-mem­ber team that in­cludes Ger­ry Stauble (vice pres­i­dent), Shel­don Bhawanie (sec­re­tary), Mary Jo Mars­den (trea­sur­er), Paul Newal­lo (as­sis­tant sec­re­tary), Devin­dra Ram­nar­ine (as­sis­tant trea­sur­er), and the three floor mem­bers, Mar­sha Bhawanie, Mer­lene Lake-Mo­hammed and Mar­la Boos.

As part of his cam­paign for the pres­i­den­cy, Gillette pro­duced a 28-page doc­u­ment for his vi­sion for growth of the club and his team's ma­jor goals will be to in­crease mem­ber­ship to 250; to hold one ma­jor fund-rais­ing ac­tiv­i­ty a term in­clud­ing the re­turn of the Moon­light at Mar­lins; and the re­fur­bish­ing of the pool that is ex­pect­ed to cost $385,000 dol­lars.
