Businessman Peter Gillette is the new president of the Marlins Swim Club.
Gillette defeated John Gonsalves for the post and Gillette ushered in eight other members of his slate to form the executive for the coming year at the club's annual general meeting held at the St Anthony's College Olympic-sized pool in Westmoorings on Tuesday.
Gillette leads a nine-member team that includes Gerry Stauble (vice president), Sheldon Bhawanie (secretary), Mary Jo Marsden (treasurer), Paul Newallo (assistant secretary), Devindra Ramnarine (assistant treasurer), and the three floor members, Marsha Bhawanie, Merlene Lake-Mohammed and Marla Boos.
As part of his campaign for the presidency, Gillette produced a 28-page document for his vision for growth of the club and his team's major goals will be to increase membership to 250; to hold one major fund-raising activity a term including the return of the Moonlight at Marlins; and the refurbishing of the pool that is expected to cost $385,000 dollars.
